Paolo, why did you choose this study path?
I chose this course of study because I wanted to pursue a career as a freelance translator and subtitler. The choice to enroll in the Specialized Translation course, offered by the Department of Interpretation and Translation (DIT) of the University of Bologna, was dictated in particular by its highly technological imprint. It is in fact one of the few translation faculties (if not the only one) to offer STEM-oriented courses (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics such as Language Data Analysis and Natural Language Processing). Given my previous studies, these courses immediately piqued my interest, being the perfect combination of engineering and translation training.
What was the topic list of nepal whatsapp phone numbers you covered in your Master's thesis?
In my master's thesis I address the topic of automatic detection of hate speech, misogyny and racism. It is a natural language processing task in which linguistic models are trained to automatically detect the presence of such speech within a text. I applied these models to the (fortunately) rather unknown world of incels (involuntary celibacy) and attempted to improve their performance through various multilingual training expedients.
What are your passions, besides languages?
I love live music, especially jazz, metalcore, djent and deathcore. I am also a musician and play drums, weather and neighbors permitting. Otherwise, I really enjoy being outdoors and being extremely active, for example, with running, hiking and weightlifting.
