The Awami League wants unity with the Communist Party of Bangladesh and other left-wing parties that supported the Liberation War. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has also called on the parties to build 'maximum unity' at the 'minimum point' on the Liberation War and Bangabandhu issue.

He made the call at a ceremony marking the 51st founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh at the Ramna Engineers Institution in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.

During the Liberation War in Bangladesh, the left-wing political country email list parties played two roles. A large part of them took a stand in favor of the Liberation War, while another part (pro-China) remained silent. Although several communist ideological political parties were formed after independence, they could not establish themselves in the political arena.

Noting that the left parties are speaking in a unified tone about not being with communal forces, Quader said, "Today, one thing is good, the leftists are speaking in one voice. That is, we are not with communal forces. Many have made this statement. So, those who have made this statement - come on, let's build maximum unity at the minimum point."

Stating that he has done student politics together with many of the eight-party alliance led by the Communist Party, the Bridge Minister said, "I have no disrespect for their ideology. Let us unite on the issue of the Liberation War and Bangabandhu."

'Awami League also wants national unity'

Quader said, "I want to say clearly, we also want national unity, we want it against the evil forces of communalism, we want national unity against the enemies of freedom, we want national unity against corrupt politics. We want national unity against corruption and terrorism, we want national unity with the forces that supported the liberation war, the spirit of the birth of this country, we want national unity with this spirit."

'BNP harassed us in the case'

Regarding BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi's allegations that the government is detaining leaders and activists in a planned manner ahead of the elections, Obaidul Quader said, "Look at history, who filed cases against our leaders for stealing plates on the ferry? We went to the elections with how many cases. Thousands of our leaders and activists left their homes at that time. Who are the saints? How many cases have they (BNP) plagued us with?"

"We don't want a case to be filed unfairly. The police are saying that the case that has been filed now is that they are plotting sabotage in the name of the movement. They (BNP) are secretly planning terrorist activities like in 2014."

Quader said, "We don't have the information, the police will know, the detectives will know. If the police files a case against someone on such allegations, will it be a harassment case?"

"If you are innocent, go to court, go to court and decide, you have freedom. Wasn't Begum Zia granted bail in 30 cases?"

The founding anniversary ceremony was presided over by Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, and other leaders spoke.
