Interlinking is the connection of pages within a site with each other via internal links, i.e. establishing links from article to article. If you pay due attention to this important component of internal site optimization, then in the future you will save a lot on promotion.

What is the purpose of interlinking?

As an anchor, you indicate the phrase you are promoting (mid-frequency or low-frequency query).

Write a title for each link, using keywords in more detail (there should be up to 50-100 characters here). For internal optimization of the site, you should describe what page will open when the user clicks on the link.

When optimizing the site internally, place links in already published texts. The built-in search engine or the search form from Google or Yandex, if their code is on the site, can help you find the necessary anchors.

Attention! Everything you need to know for internal website optimization about high-, medium- and low-frequency queries:

High -frequency queries . They are also the most competitive. As a rule, high-frequency queries are 1–2 words with a frequency of several thousand or tens of thousands of impressions per month (according to Yandex.Wordstat). Such queries include general phrases (for example, “website optimization”).

Mid-frequency queries . These are phrases of 3–4 words that are requested up to several thousand times per month. These are more specific queries (for example, “internal website optimization”).

Low -frequency queries . Users request these phrases no more than a thousand times a month. These queries consist of several words and reflect what the user needs with maximum accuracy. Example: "how to independently analyze the internal optimization of a site."

As an example of successful use of interlinking, let's look at the Wikipedia website. In all articles and almost in every sentence there is a link to another article. This is a great example for using such interlinking on your site.

We recommend:

for greater reliability and efficiency, contextual interlinking should be done manually, without using programs or plugins;

modify key phrases in links. Let's say you need to promote the phrase "how to analyze internal website optimization." Don't write these words in exactly the same order and form on every page, otherwise search engines will take this maneuver for spam. Change the case, change the declension, add words (for example, "how to analyze internal website optimization"), etc.

Place contextual links carefully so that they blend organically into the text, since you write first and foremost for users, and only then for search engines.
